CONVERSE Made by You

Agi Mdumulla - Converse Sneaker Portrait

Today Converse launch an exciting project called Made by You, a campaign celebrating the self-expression and experiences marked on all our Chuck Taylor All Stars. We all know what it’s like with a pair of Chucks, they start out fresh, they get worn in, then you wear ’em to death but each pair goes on a journey with you and becomes a self-portrait of the wearer. The shape, of YOUR feet, the memories of the places they have been, the roads travelled.

Fans of the Chucks across the world have offered their personal pairs for Chuck Taylor sneaker portraits, images showcasing the diversity of wearers and the stories they have to tell. Converse have curated a selection of the sneaker portraits by international icons including Patti Smith, Jefferson Hack, Andy Warhol and Glenn O’Brien, as well as British creative spirits from various fields including Agi & Sam, Sibling, Sean Frank, Sam Taylor and Shay Ola. Each creative spirit has also shared their Six Word Story, a snapshot of their Chucks experience and life attitude.

We love the whole Made By You concept and the idea of telling individual stories through the shoes, the stories of those that have walked in those Chucks. And with such a historic shoe the journey of the Chuck Taylor All Star has been a long one.

It’s a London ‘ting.

The Made By You project comes to London this week as London Chuck fans also have their own chance to celebrate their stories and their sneakers, as one of our local creatives, artist Damilola Odusote, will create an original Made by you art installation in Shoreditch. Damilola Odusote is a British born artist with Nigerian routes based in London, whose sculptures combine everyday objects with abstract techniques to challenge our perceptions.

Damilola offers his own take on Sneaker Portraits – thousands of polaroids of Londoners wearing their Chucks and sharing their Six Word Stories – assembling the images to create a very unique artwork of London’s iconic outline.

Supported by students from Central Saint Martins, Damilola will construct the unique and striking installation by hand within a gallery space on London’s Shoreditch high street. From the slightest mark to the most original personalisation, the impressions on each pair of Chucks hints at their unique story, making each pair owned a one-off. The raw Sneaker Portraits gathered together in Damilola’s installation will reveal and celebrate the self-expression of some of the city’s most diverse characters to create an artwork that is authentically Made by You.

Please come down and check out the amazing installation this week in London. And wear the Chucks that have been Made By You.
