A pair a day for a year, Day 50, Puma Suede Tommie Smith – Fists Up

50 pairs in!

I took these out of the box a couple days ago and I forgot how damn amazing these are. For those of you that don’t know who Tommie Smith you may have seen the picture of him with his fist raised on the Olympic podium after taking the 200m gold medal in the Mexico 1968 Olympics. Tommie took off his Puma Suedes to walk to the podium in black socks and raise his fist as the symbol of Black Power. At a time where in the US race relations were at breaking point, well non-existant would be more appropriate, Mr. Smith walked in his black socks and raised his fist in the most powerful assertion of his blackness and as a sign to people of colour to stand strong.

I had to post these up big just because I think Puma really killed it with these and that repeating fist, a real strong shoe, in honour of a very strong and amazing individual. Salute.
